Point of Culture – A Look at the Community

Goal

Promote activities to access cultural assets to expand the personal universe of children and adolescents, through workshops to rescue the regional culture, participating in cultural activities with dance, capoeira, sarau and providing visits to art exhibitions and cultural activities in general.

About the Project

ProBrasil, knowing the needs of the community closely and with the objective of collaborating in the construction of a new reality for the future of the residents of the region (Parelheiros), elaborated the project, believing that the teaching of art and culture are essential tools for the process of a People’s transformation. The project has contributed to the integral development of the public served and to the reduction of the exposure of the social risks that the region offers. The project offers possibilities to broaden the knowledge of oneself and the world and transform personal and social reality. About 90 children and adolescents with percussion classes, sertanejo, guitar, capoeira, photography, contemporary dance, theater and visual arts are attended. The population in the surroundings is also contemplated with Cine Álamos, which is held once a month, with film and chat shows, as well as Sarau, which is an event to get closer to the community.

Coordination

DOUGLAS PINHEIRO B. SOUZA

He was born in São Paulo, and he started his acting career in 2007 at Cia Mascárate de Teatro, performing several presentations in Brazil and in countries like “Portugal, Dominican Republic and Argentina”. In 2010 he became a curator of projects of the Cultural Association Arautos, in Embu Guaçu SP; In 2012, as President of Arautos leading a project with about 300 children and adolescents until 2014. He is a graduation’s student in Arts, founder of the Shared Workshop of Embu Guaçu, and currently coordinator of the Culture Point of the ProBrasil Association.

Photography Lesson – Thamires Cabral – (Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
Contemporary Dance Lessons – Jacqueline Correa (Tuesdays, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
